Restaurant: Kamon
Food type: Japanese
City: Valencia, Spain
As we didn’t know the restaurants in Valencia our approach was always to ask at the reception for some advice
. The third evening we were instructed to go to a tapas restaurant in the city center. Arrived there we weren’t very impressed with the bar and one of my colleagues didn’t want to have tapas again. So we started on our own the search for something better… Our attention was caught by a Japanese Sushi restaurant and we were very excited to try it. Unfortunately that evening the restaurant was fully booked. Therefore the next evening we returned around 8 o’clock and found a place since Spanish people us
ually eat later.
The restaurant has only a few tables inside and some outside. We were very happy that we’ve got a place inside since that week Valencia was celebrating the ‘Fallas’ and there was a lot going on on the streets. The name of the restaurant is “Kamon” and comes apparently from Japanese meaning ‘shield’. The logo is similar to the wings of a bat … The people are very friendly and they also speak English. Some of them are Japanese and some locals. I also loved the decorations inside: on the walls they have some nice paintings depicting Japanese young ladies.
We decided to take the menu of the evening as it had several dishes including a dessert at the end. We also ordered Japanese beer which was quite good.
We were impressed with both the quality of the food but also the presentation. The dishes looked stunning. We started with edamame, then a tuna tartare with avocado mousse, then fried crab, 3 different sushi (one even had ..) and chicken with potato puree. At the end came the dessert an interest
ing combination: sesame panacotta with icecream and fresh fruit.
The whole experience was amazing. At the end we also ordered cold sake which was quite interesting. We stayed there from 08:00 till around 10:30 that much we liked it and enjoyed every bit of the food.
The price is affordable. The menu costs 26 euros pro Person. In total we paid 66 euros for two persons including the drinks.
I would definitely like to come back and I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. It’s one of the best Japanese food I had in Europe.
