A family business in Dieni – Hotel Cresta

Last weekend I’ve been skiing in the Andermatt-Sedrun region on the other side of the Overalppass. Just a few days before I’ve searched for a hotel in Dieni (as the skilifts where in this village). I’ve found the Hotel Cresta online and I made a call to ask if they have free rooms. The lady said yes and asked me to send her an e-mail with my details. And then I was sure I had a room …

Well from Friday till Saturday evening I’ve been cross country skiing in Obergoms in Valais and then left towards Dieni in the evening.

It was a great train ride over the pass. I’ll definitely return again in the spring or summer. Travelling by the small red train combined with the snow it was like magic. We passed by small villages, valleys and high mountains covered with snow.

Dieni is a small village in the Graubünden canton in Switzerland where the local language is romansch. It is part of the Tujetsch municipality and the Surselva district.

I arrived around 18:30 at the hotel and they  didn’t know anything about my reservation. But they were very nice to me and found a solution: they gave me a whole apartment in a small house just above the hotel (3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom and living room). I was impressed: very clean and nicely furnished.

I also decided to have diner there. They have a restaurant and it was pretty full that evening. The menu has many traditional Swiss dishes including some local (Capuns) and some classic ones (steak, pasta, etc.).

I’ve ordered a green salad and then Rösti – a traditional swiss potatoe dish. I’m a Rösti lover and this one was one of the best that I had till now. The cheese was very creamy and combined with the spicy sausage it brought the dish to another level.

I found the owners very dedicated to their business. They were treating the guests as being part of their own family. This is a place where I will return again some day …
